Office of National Drug Control Policy
Friends and Colleagues,

This is Kemp Chester, the Acting Director of the Office of National Drug Control Policy. As many of you know, I was designated by the President to assume this role on January 20 after former Director Michael Botticelli left ONDCP. I worked for Director Botticelli for more than a year and saw firsthand the impact he had on the people ONDCP works to help. I admire him and the work he did here greatly. Some of you I’ve met and others I have not yet had the pleasure to meet but hope to do so soon. I’m reaching out today to introduce myself and to let you know that we are still working hard on behalf of the American people to address drug use and its consequences. This includes working with President Trump’s team to develop his drug policy framework for our Nation going forward.

I’m excited to be leading ONDCP during this period of transition because I’ve spent my career working to make our country and our communities safer, and I consider it an enormous privilege to continue my public service alongside the incredibly talented and dedicated men and women of ONDCP.

At ONDCP, I’ve been actively involved in our policy response to the drug-related threats we face and our strategies to address them, including prevention, expanding access to treatment, and stopping the flow of drugs into and throughout our country. I’ve seen just how much our work depends on great partners like you – people on the ground in communities across the country including parents, advocates, public health officials, treatment providers, first responders, and law enforcement officers, as well as local, state, tribal, and Federal leaders, and so many others working tirelessly to improve the health of their communities. I admire the work you do, and please know that you have a voice and a partner in me personally, and indeed all of us here at ONDCP.

So while the President works to nominate the next Director of ONDCP, I want you to know that I am here for you. I know that Director Botticelli touched most of your lives in some way and filling his shoes is no small task. But I’ll do my best, and I look forward to the opportunity to work with you all as we continue to fulfill ONDCP’s mission.

Sincerely,

Kemp Chester
Acting Director
Office of National Drug Control Policy
